When the student is ready, the (right) teacher appears…

We are always learning. It doesn’t matter who we are, what we look like, what job status we have, if we are a parent, a boss, or someone in high authority rankings, we all play the role of student and teacher in our lives. Sometimes we are not even aware of what and who we are teaching or learning from, but it’s all happening with every interaction that we ever have.
Sometimes we make the mistake of judging people by the roles that they play in society and we don’t see how we can possibly be learning from everyone. If you’re a parent, then you may believe that you know better than your child, and so you teach them to behave appropriately and to gain important life skills. When you work, you take direction from your employer and you assume the role of a learner – well mostly, anyway!

But we may not always be aware of our teachers and the lessons that are in front of us.

We learn from loved ones, friends, strangers and even our worst enemies. And although you’d rather have some of these people out of your lives, they are in it for a reason. Just like our children can teach us patience, tolerance and unconditional love, our enemies can teach us lessons that are just as valuable – if not, then at the very least, they teach us what not to do!

By no means am I saying that there’s a right and wrong here. In fact, if you take away the emotion and opinions that people have, then there is only cause and effect, or action and reaction. How we perceive the results is what causes us pain and negative feelings, and not the outcome itself.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you know more than you do. Awareness is the first step in transformation, and you can’t possibly know all of the things that you’re not even aware of. Blaming others is natural when things don’t go your way, but it’s important to see how your thoughts, words and action may contribute to such unfavourable circumstances. You have more influence over your life than you may realise.

So next time you start to wonder why someone is in your life, or why something is not going your way, stop and ask yourself if there is in fact an opportunity for you to learn a valuable life lesson.

It took me a long time to figure out that people in my life that who were causing me immense pain, were actually there to help me to grow. I didn’t recognise it at the time but this is how the universe works. Now I thank and bless all of the teachers in my life, obvious ones and also not so obvious ones in the physical world….as well as the ones in the inner world. With immense gratitude, with tremendous respect and with unconditional love…
